Discovering the hidden Barcelona

tapas bar in barcelonaMost visitors here in Barcelona, Spain generally stay within the ancient city walls. But many of the more interesting cafés, shops, and architectural sites here are in the newer neighborhoods.

It’s easy to get there, although it helps to have a guide who knows their way around. But anyone can do it using the ultra-modern  transit system.

All the metro lines are color coded, so it makes it extremely easy to find out where you want to go.

And when you get to, let’s say, Eixample, you’ll find the Fifth Avenue of Barcelona alongside an explosion of unique sidewalk cafés and tapas restaurants.  And some surprisingly reasonable ones.

Most bars and restaurants keep the menu outside. More often than not they have a billboard outside listing the prices of all the tapas so you know what you’ll pay before going in and you can sit as long as you like. It’s laid-back living in a vibrant city.
